Eurostampi 2009 to Host Demonstration Project

Eurostampi 2009 will be held in Parma, Italy, March 19–21 as an essential element of the seven-show Mec-Spe international specialized mechanics trade show. Again, the previously very popular demonstration project “Dal Progetto all’Oggetto” (“From the Plan to the Finished Object”) will be a highlight of the fair, for visitors and exhibitors alike.

This special Eurostampi feature shows how technique and creativity go hand in hand in producing a commodity that has utility and beauty. This year, the product for everyday use that will be designed and manufactured by a team of companies and fabricated before the eyes of show visitors is a plastic clothes peg strongly resistant to wear and corrosion.

The peg is intended to serve as an example of products that can combine a pleasing, aesthetic design, practical utility, and low-cost production through the synergy of cooperating companies’ talents and technologies. Such products can be manufactured competitively in Europe while offering consumers the properties of quality and attractiveness they demand.

The demonstration project involves both exhibitors, who participate actively in the object’s entire production cycle from planning and design through manufacturing, and visitors, who can directly observe each step of the clothes peg’s creation. It provides a unique opportunity to appreciate the complex and elaborate production process necessary for manufacturing even apparently simple items.

This year, according to Senaf S.r.l., the organizer of Eurostampi and all of the Mec-Spe fairs, the challenge at the heart of Dal Progetto all’Oggetto concerns simplifying the mould making and injection moulding phases. The clothes peg will be created from a plastic resin by means of injection moulding with a double extraction mould. The many copies of the peg that will be produced will be distributed to visitors as a free gift.

For the first time, the upcoming project will include manufacturing an important detail of the mould itself within the demonstration unit.

The project has another objective: to show small and medium-sized companies how using processes developed by other firms in conjunction with their own competencies can help them maintain competitive position even if they lack internal in-house R&D resources.
