Studer, Combitec Merge Competencies

Two Swiss leaders in cylindrical grinding machine technology, Fritz Studer AG, headquartered in Thun, and Combitec AG, with headquarters in Biel, are merging their competencies. The integration of Combitec into Studer AG enables both companies to increase their market share and improve their technological standing in the world market.

The companies’ product ranges of complement each other very well. Fritz Studer manufactures standard cylindrical grinding machines along with a wide assortment of accessories for external- and internal-grinding applications for small or medium-sized components. Combitec manufactures high-precision internal grinding machines, principally for the production of small and medium-sized components and especially in the area of hard materials.

Both manufacturing facilities will remain where they are today. The management of Combitec will continue to manage the facility in Biel.

According to Stephan Nell, chairman of the board of directors of Fritz Studer, Combitec has an excellent range of machines and considerable know-how in internal grinding. The international distribution network of Fritz Studer gives Combitec an ideal platform for becoming active in the global marketplace.

The Biel manufacturing facility will become the companies’ Competency Centre for Internal Grinding. Operating management there remains in the hands of the present owner of Combitec, Daniel Huber. Huber stresses that the merger with Studer brings excellent growth potential for Combitec and helps to secure the future of the facility in Biel.
