Renishaw Offering REVO CMM Seminars

Renishaw plc has expressed delight with the response to its first REVO™ seminars for UK manufacturers, which were held in September and attended by engineers from automotive, aerospace, and subcontract manufacturing companies. More seminars are scheduled for November.

“We have to implement this technology within the coming year to cope with the demand for inspection,” was a comment made by one September seminar participant. Other reactions included “The software is far easier to programme than I thought” and “We will be testing REVO as part of our next CMM evaluation.”

Seminar attendees get to see the ultrafast REVO 5-axis coordinate measuring machine (CMM) scanning system in action so as to be able to appreciate its speed and the way REVO uses a metrology approach completely different from that of conventional CMM inspection. They are taken through all of the system’s capabilities in detail, hearing explanations of the various REVO inspection moves being told about the software packages on offer. They have a chance to discuss the technical details with CMM engineers, including accuracy, specification of the system on new or existing CMMs, and how to measure their own jobs.

Unlike conventional scanning methods, which rely on speeding up the motion of the CMM’s 3 axes in order to scan quickly, 5-axis scanning uses synchronized motion of the machine and head axes to minimize the dynamic errors of CMM motion at ultrahigh scanning speeds. No loss of accuracy is evidenced even at speeds as high as 500 mm/sec.

The first November REVO seminar was held in Gloucestershire on November 4. Upcoming are regional seminars in Birmingham on Tuesday, November 18, and Halifax on Thursday, November 20.
